Action Project Description:
My partner Britt Autry and I created a resource for the heads of school and science department to use when they build the Garden Dome on our new campus at Fort Lewis College. The proposal details the plans we made with Dave Farkas, the Biology teacher at Animas, who will be the head administrator of the Dome. The plans utilize the existing pvc frame dome, which has a 14 foot diameter and adds a 24 ft x 24ft deck, fenced in composting area, and water spigot. Dave plans to designate half the dome for vegetable and herb cultivation, and the other half to flower cultivation. Our proposal also includes a budget for both one-time and recurring expenses, potential fundraising avenues, community feedback, strategies for maintenance/sustainability, a short list of plants and flowers which have been proven to be successful in our climate, potential obstacles and lingering questions, and a list of underclassmen who are interested in furthering the garden.
