Research Question:How does nature impact us and how can we utilize The 14 Patterns of Biophilic Design in schools to mimic those natural spaces?
|
Thesis Statement:While integrating biophilic design into a man-made environment has logistical challenges, the benefits far outweigh the costs. Using The 14 Patterns of Biophilic Design, we can mimic the natural environments that strengthen our immune system, reduce stress, improve cognitive performance, and help regulate emotions, all vital benefits for a school environment.

Action Project Description:
My action project is a design project for the new AHS building. Using elements of biophilic design I designed “outcroppings” of the new building. They are study/breakout spaces in the center of the hallway. I got feedback and guidance from the architects designing the building, and presented my design plans to their firm as well as the school design group.
