Research Question:What is the most effective way to ensure racial equality in the current U.S police system?
|
Thesis Statement:Specifically, the most effective way to ensure racial equality in the U.S police system is to increase training and resources around implicit and racial bias in order to reduce the negative effects of racial bias. Additionally, police need to incorporate regular use of body-worn cameras as well as work with the media to offer context about this issue to the public. We also need a society wide approach to a regular practice of truth and reconciliation.

Action Project Description:
For my action project I am refining and rebuilding the restorative justice program at Animas High School. I have collaborated with Erin Skyles as well as Esther, the LPYS Restorative Justice Program Manager throughout my project. For my exhibition, freshman and sophomore teachers will be showing a screencast of me presenting a power-point presentation I made surrounding what RJ is, why it is an important strategy to use, and why it will fit well within our school culture. At the end of my presentation, all teachers as well as freshman and sophomore students will take a nomination survey in order to start the formation of the Animas RJ team for next year.
